(중략) 친구들에게 집세가 올라 이곳 살이를 접는다 말했다. 친구들은 갑자기 그렇게 고향으로 돌아갈 수 있겠냐, 일상이 많이 달라질 텐데 괜찮겠냐 물었다. 그래서 괜찮을 것 같다고 답했다. 그저 새로운 생각과 경험을 하기 위한 또 다른 환경에 안착하거나 또 떠날 뿐이다. 더 이상 고향이라는 단어가 주는 감상에 젖지 않고, 내가 오랫동안 하고 싶다고 생각해온 일들을 읊어본다.
I told my friends that I'm considering ending my stay here due to the increase in rent. They asked if I could really go back to my hometown, if my daily life would change significantly, and if I would be okay with that. So I replied that I think I'll be fine. I'll just settle into another environment for new thoughts and experiences, or leave again. No longer swayed by the sentiments attached to the word "hometown," I ponder over the things I've long wanted to do.
